Handset Sales Jump; Sony Ericsson Rejoins Top 5

The worldwide market for mobile phones took off in the second quarter of 2003. According to IDC's Worldwide Handset QView, worldwide handset shipments grew by 19.2% year-over-year, and increased 6.7% over the previous quarter. Nokia maintained its top market-share position, while Sony Ericsson regained the number 5 spot from LG Electronics.
