Nokia Siemens Feature Doubles GSM Capacity
Aug 10, 2010, 8:39 AM by Philip Berne
Nokia Siemens has announced a new feature for its GSM network products, Dynamic Frequency and Channel Allocation (DFCA), which the network equipment manufacturer claims will double the capacity of current GSM networks using the same amount of radio spectrum. DFCA works by squeezing voice calls into a smaller bandwidth, freeing up more space for data transmissions. Nokia Siemens described DFCA as a "combination of software features," which should have the effect of doubling capacity, improving network quality and increasing energy efficiency per subscriber. The new feature works with EDGE, WCDMA and LTE networks.
