At the Gamescom 2010 conference in Cologne, Microsoft uncorked its first bottle of Xbox Live games launching with Windows Phone 7 late this year. Among the first titles announced were 'companion' titles to popular games, including stripped down games based on "Halo" and "Crackdown," as well as a long list of titles and development houses that should be familiar to mobile gaming fans. Games from THQ, Namco, Glu and PopCap, among many other developers, will be available at launch. Familiar titles include "Max and the Magic Marker," a popular title on Nintendo's Wii Ware service, classics like "Frogger" and "Earthworm Jim," as well as licensed titles from the Star Wars universe. In all, Microsoft announced more than 60 titles for the Windows Phone 7 launch. The gaming hub on Windows Phone 7 will also offer Xbox Achievement points, and gamers will be able to load their 3D avatar character onto their phone. The game hub will offer messaging between Xbox Live friends. Multiplayer gaming will be available, but Microsoft has only announced turn-based, asynchronous gaming, not one-on-one combat style play.
