Facebook Updating iPhone App to Support Location Features
Aug 18, 2010, 9:11 PM by Philip Berne
At an event at its Palo Alto headquarters today, Facebook unveiled its new location feature, Places. Places will work with existing location-based social networks Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp and Booyah, and will let Facebook users check in and share locations with their social circle. The feature will roll out first on an iPhone app which Facebook says should be available some time this evening. In addition, the new feature will work with Facebook's smartphone-friendly touch.facebook.com site, so any user with an adequate browser should be able to take advantage. Facebook has also opened up its places API to allow developers to create location-based apps that work with Facebook's so-called Social Graph features.
