CellTrust Wants Carriers to Use SecureSMS with NFC Services
Aug 25, 2010, 10:03 AM by Eric M. Zeman
CellTrust today announced that it is planning to offer APIs (application programming interfaces) using its SecureSMS technology to carriers that are deploying NFC (near field communication) technology. NFC consists of a small, short-range radio that interacts with a reader when brought close enough (generally within an inch). In order for NFC to work, wireless network operators need to provision their systems to securely transmit customers' banking data and identity information between the reader, the phone, and the network. CellTrust's APIs will let carriers more easily provision their NFC systems and do so securely. CellTrust says its technology addresses spoofing and uses government-grade encryption to protect user information. The APIs will also allow carriers to set up NFC systems without the need to develop an NFC platform from the ground up. CellTrust believes that by using its tools, carriers will be able to bring NFC services to market faster.
