All Four Major Carriers Land Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung today announced distribution deals with all four major U.S. wireless network operators. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless have all agreed to sell the Android 2.2 Froyo-powered Galaxy Tab. The Tab was previously announced for European markets. The Tab shares most specs across all four carrier variants. It has a 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, dual cameras (3 megapixel main, 1.3 megapixel secondary), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, accelerometer, Flash Player Mobile 10.1, and a 4000mAh battery.

• AT&T: The AT&T variant of the Galaxy Tab will offer SMS/MMS messaging and social networking services. It will come with a range of AT&T software and services on board, including AT&T Connection Manager, AT&T Radio, and access to AT&T's Wi-Fi hotspot network.
• Sprint: The Sprint variant swaps GSM/UMTS for CDMA, though it will not have WiMax on board. It will come with a number of branded Sprint services.
• T-Mobile: The T-Mobile Variant of the Tab closely matches the AT&T version. T-Mobile specified that SMS/MMS would be available, as would IM and video chatting via Wi-Fi. The T-Mobile variant will have HSPA, but not HSPA+.
• Verizon Wireless: Verizon Wireless' variant of the Galaxy Tab offers the same hardware features as the others, but ships with a number of Verizon Wireless-branded apps and services, such as such as V CAST Music with Rhapsody, V CAST Video on Demand, V CAST Song ID, and VZ Navigator. It also features Verizon's Mobile Hotspot feature, allowing other devices to tether to it via Wi-Fi for internet connectivity.

Samsung also announced that a Wi-Fi-only version of the Galaxy Tab will be available alongside the cellular versions. Of note, Samsung said that none of the Galaxy Tab variants will be able to make cellular voice calls. The Galaxy Tab will be available from all four carriers before the holidays, but pricing and exact availability was not disclosed by any of the companies involved. A Samsung representative confirmed that the Tab would be available before Black Friday.
