U.S. Cellular Targeting 2012 for LTE Launch
Nov 10, 2010, 7:32 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Speaking at a conference, Steven Campbell, U.S. Cellular's executive vice president and CFO, said that the company plans to launch a single Long Term Evolution test market in late 2011 and will follow that with a more wide-scale LTE launch in 2012. U.S. Cellular indicated that it is open to the idea of forging alliances with network wholesalers in order to provide the coverage and services it can't in some regions. Campbell declined to name the LTE test market, though he did indicate that the company is not looking to rush into LTE. U.S. Cellular is a CDMA carrier, as is Verizon Wireless, so switching to LTE will be a significant change in technology for the firm.
