Nov 15, 2010, 1:30 PM by Eric M. Zeman
LightSquared today successfully launched its first satellite to use with its planned satellite / terrestrial hybrid Long Term Evolution mobile broadband network. The Sky Terra 1 was hurled skyward by International Launch Services from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. The satellite is a Boeing 702HP and features a 22-meter L-band reflector antenna. The Sky Terra 1 will help LightSquared provide wholesale mobile broadband access nationwide. LightSquared is combining its planned satellite services with ground-based LTE network coverage, which has yet to launch.
