Texas Instruments announced a significant update to an existing chip design with a new system-on-a-chip configuration. The OMAP4440 has two 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A9 MPCores, a Powervr 3D graphics engine, as well as Texas Instruments' high-definition/multi-standard video, image signal processor, low-power audio processor and digital signal processor. The sum of these components supports HDMI v1.4 with full 1080p HD/3D video playback, 12 megapixel camera sensors, as well as a 50% increase in performance, and 33% decrease in web page load times. The processor also supports video conferencing at 1080p with one line or at 720p with up to four lines. The OMAP4440 is expected to sample in the first quarter of 2011, and ship during the second half of 2011.
