Google has developed a version of its Latitude application for the iPhone, and it is available for free from the iPhone App Store. Latitude is a location-based social networking app that lets users share their location on a map to their friends. The application can work in the background, allowing for real-time location tracking if the user so wishes, or turned on/off when the user wishes. Latitude can also be used from desktop PCs. Latitude for the the iPhone requires iOS 4 and up. The application was first announced by Google in February 2009.
