Eye-Fi is working on a smartphone app that will let Eye-Fi owners send photos directly from a camera to a smartphone, bypassing the desktop. Photos will be sent directly from the Eye-Fi card to the phone, without the need for a Wi-Fi network. The upcoming Direct Mode software will work with Eye-Fi's existing X2 series of SD cards. The Direct Mode software will be available later in 2011, and specific phone platforms have yet to be announced.
