New Industry Group Targets OTA Updates
Nov 14, 2003, 3:23 PM by (staff)
Several major wireless companies yesterday jointly announced the formation of the OTA Flash Forum, a special interest group created to accelerate widespread adoption of OTA (over-the-air) wireless device management. Founding members include Bitfone, Gemplus, Motorola, Orange and T-Mobile USA. The group is already working on standards recommendations for the technology, which it will submit to industry standards bodies such as OMA for consideration. The OTA technology will allow wireless customers to receive firmware, software and configuration updates wirelessly, without having to visit a store or service center.
