Starbucks today announced that customers can use select smartphones to make purchases at Starbucks locations directly from their device. Starbucks had been trialling the system at Starbucks locations in Manhattan and today offers the same service at 6,800 Starbucks coffee shops and 1,000 Target locations. The Starbucks Card Mobile App takes advantage of the Starbucks Card platform, and will charge purchases directly to a user's Starbucks Card account. The free application works with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and a number of BlackBerry handsets, including the Bold, Curve, Storm, and Tour.
