Hitachi, Casio Consolidate Mobile Phone Operations
Nov 19, 2003, 4:45 PM by (staff)
Japanese phone makers Casio and Hitachi this week announced plans to establish a mobile phone joint venture in April 2004. Through the venture, the companies will share development, design, and component procurement, but the companies will continue to brand and market phones seperately. The consolidation is aimed at cutting costs and strengthening overseas sales. Both companies are major players in the Japanese market, but only Hitachi currently markets phones in the U.S., through its relationship with Sprint.
