Facebook Intros Feature Phone App

Facebook today announced a new application that will allow standard feature phones to access and use select Facebook features, including contact access, status updates and photos. According to Facebook, the application works with some 2,500 different phone models, including those built by manufacturers such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and others. Facebook said it worked with 14 different operators around the world so that customers in those companies won't be charged data fees to access the Facebook app for the first 90 days it is available. The application is being made available to markets outside the U.S. first. Facebook didn't announce plans to bring the application to feature phones in the U.S., but the app was developed in cooperation with Snaptu, which already provides a social networking application for feature phones from carriers such as AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
