Speaking at an event, Facebook's chief technology officer, Bret Taylor, said that Facebook's primary focus for 2011 will be to enhance the mobile features and services offered by Facebook. "Mobile is our primary focus for our platform this year. Mobile usage has been the fastest growing part of the Facebook experience. Taylor pointed out that more than 200 million people use Facebook from mobile devices, and that subset of users is far more active than those who access Facebook only from a desktop. Taylor indicated that it believes HTML5 is the future. He said, "We are going to be investing a lot in developing HTML5 versions of Facebook. We are hoping that can over time help people get the breadth of distribution on mobile." Taylor didn't go into specifics about what changes Facebook users can expect to see.
