FCC Settles On White Space Admins
Jan 27, 2011, 1:36 PM by Eric M. Zeman
The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday tasked nine companies with keeping track of white space spectrum (unused spectrum that resides between television channels) across the country. The nine companies approved to help monitor the white space database are Comsearch, Frequency Finder, Google, KB Enterprises and LS Telcom, Key Bridge Global, Neustar, Spectrum Bridge, Telcordia Technologies, and WSdb. By cataloging the whereabouts of white spaces, it will allow unlicensed wireless devices to identify white space spectrum and differentiate it from the neighboring TV spectrum. The FCC wants white spaces to be developed for additional broadband wireless services.
