Feb 10, 2011, 8:52 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Marvell today announced a new Wi-Fi radio that takes advantage of the multiple-in, multiple-out (MIMO) antenna array design used by WiMax and LTE networking equipment. The Avastar 88W8797 module is a system on a chip and includes Wi-Fi transmission beamforming, Bluetooth 4.0 low energy, and FM transmit/receive. Using the MIMO antenna design allows the chip to deliver Wi-Fi at up to 300Mbps, says Marvell. Marvell believes the new Wi-Fi radio is ideal for devices such as smartphones and tablets.
