Audiovox Announces 1xEV-DO Pocket PC

(updated) Audiovox today announced the PPC 5050, the first phone for North America to support the CDMA 1xEV-DO 3G technology. The 5050 runs Microsoft Windows Mobile Phone Edition 2003, and has a 400MHz Intel® processor, 64 MB of memory, and a memory card slot. The device is 0.7 inches thick and weighs 6.2 ounces. 1xEV-DO, launched recently by Verizon in San Diego and Washington, D.C., offers broadband data speeds averaging 300-500 kbps. The phone also supports 1xRTT for use in other areas. The PPC 5050 will be available later this quarter.
