Nokia N80 Video Tour

Article Comments  19

A video tour of Nokia's new N80 slider smartphone with S60 3rd Edition, Wi-Fi, a 3 megapixel camera, and more.

The Nokia N80 is one of the first Nseries phones announced for the U.S. Most the others, even the N90, were mostly intended to be sold abroad. But with this model, Nokia included just about every feature and radio you could pack into a phone to make it truly global. The N80 has quad-band GSM with EDGE, WCDMA 2100 for abroad - or WCDMA 1900 for use here (depending on the version) - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even FM visual radio.

If we showed off everything packed into this phone, you'd be staring at your screen for an hour. So we just hit the highlights, like the new web browser, 3 megapixel camera and music player. You can watch it here:

or go to the full YouTube page.

Nokia N80 ?-may be a dopey ? but

if I purchase an unlocked Nokia N80 from someplace like eBay, how do I get it to work with one of the US carriers. I just learned that only Cingular and T-Mobile are GSM carriers and that is what the N80 is, I think. So, do I just buy a cheap Smartphone with appropriate add-ons from Cingular and then change the SIM card or is it more complicated than that?

Please advise!

Phone Freeze?

I've heard some complain about this phone freezing. Does anyone here have personal reports of this? This video tour has pretty much sold me on the phone, but I want to make sure I'm not buying a glitchy handful of plastic.
i'm told by our nokia contacts that there is a new version of the firmware that is significantly more stable. we did experience freezes and restarts with the firmware version loaded on this. we're sending our n80 back to nokia for re-flashing, and wil...

One word AWSOME

I got the nokia 6270 and if you like the n80 but its a little to costly then go with the 6270 since its only missing a few features from the n80 an it has a 2MP CAMERA! 😁
the n80 is an S60 smartphone. the 6270 is a series 40 slider. i'm not knockin the new series 40, becuase it's pretty hot, but the N80 offers so much more. in addition to the more powerful os, it has wifi, a better camera, and 3g for cingular (if you l...

Release Date?

I know you said in the video that it would be later this year, but is there anything more concrete than that? They had a prior release date for Q1 2006, but those software issues came up... any idea now as to the release date?
Based on a website called Mobiledia, this phone will be out in Q2 2006 for Cingular. I know that is not great information either, but I thought you might want to know. I have no idea of the validity of this website, but I was just sharing.

No lens cover?

Is the lack of a lens cover a problem? Isn't the plastics covering the lens going to get scratched, etc. and effect image quality? Eric, do you think this is a problem?

Also, is there plastic covering the screen? I hope not. I carry my Nokia phone in my pocket, without a case, and it's a real hassle to periodically remove the dust from behind the screen.
the lack of lens cover is a bit of a disappointment, but only a bit. the plastic covering the lens seems very durable. it didn't scratch at all in my pocket. it collected a little grime (on the outside, not beneath), but that's no biggie.

there is...

Screen?

"... the bright QVGA screen . . "

I thought I had heard 352 x 416 ?

Maybe I'm just confused, any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

-Alex
That sounds like the N73 and/or N93.
it was a slip of the tongue. we have posted a new version of the video that no longer makes that error.
