AT&T Wireless has become the center of a new wave of merger rumors and reports. Most speculation has focused on the possibility of Cingular buying the company. But more recent reports point to other potential buyers, including NTT DoCoMo, Nextel, and Vodafone. NTT DoCoMo already owns 15 percent of AT&T Wireless. Vodafone currently owns a large stake in Verizon Wireless, but AT&T's GSM technology would be a better fit with Vodafone's international networks and global plans. Another report indicates that AT&T Wireless has already hired Merrill Lynch & Co. to arrange the merger or sale.
