Google Navigation Adds Traffic Avoidance

Google today announced another update to its Maps and Navigation products for the Android platform. Now, when users start a navigation session, Maps/Navigation will provide several different routes (old Maps defaulted to fastest), including the shortest and fastest. The routes offered will take into consideration real-time and historical traffic data for each route, and will automatically suggest different options if it determines that there is traffic ahead. The new version of Navigation is available in North America and Europe starting today.

Very nice but.....
Phone navigation is only as good as the coverage of the network it is on.
Some states have tons of dead-zones.
For crying out loud, you spent a @!@XXO of $$$$ for an Android platform phone, shell out a couple of $$ and buy a good GPS device.
Satellites have no topographical barriers to deal with except where there is total blockage of signal like underground.

The places that I face traffic already have good 3G (or 4G, whatever G) service. I am talking about urban areas. Of course there are locations have sparse coverage, but that doesn't mean you have to shell out hundreds for a standalone gps device. Ther...
