RIM Recommends Users Disable JavaScript in WebKit Browser

A security exploit of the BlackBerry 6 WebKit browser was recently demonstrated by hackers at the Pwn2Own Contest. The hack would allow ne'er-do-wells to use the BlackBerry Browser to access user data stored on the media card and in the built-in media storage on the handset, though they would be unable to access user data such as email, calendar and contacts. As such, Research In Motion is recommending that users disable JavaScript in their browsers (or disable their browser completely) so that the exploit can't be used. It has posted instructions on how to do this on its web site.
