RIM Licenses 30,000 Patents from Intellectual Ventures
Mar 30, 2011, 9:55 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Research In Motion today announced that it has licensed the use of intellectual property — which includes some 30,000 patents — from Intellectual Ventures. By licensing the IP, RIM will be able to use certain technologies created and patented by others in its own products and services without fear of lawsuits or other negative financial outcomes. RIM has run afoul of patent trouble in the past, and paid patent-holding company NTP a $612 million judgement in 2006.
