Huawei May Build U.S. Cellular's LTE Network

According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei is among the finalists being considered by U.S. Cellular to build its 4G Long Term Evolution network. Huawei also indicated that it is talking to local, state, and federal agencies regarding the next-generation public safety network. The company has hit yet another snag, however, as a handful of U.S. senators and representatives have sent a letter to the president urging him to enact legislation that would prevent Huawei from selling telecom gear in the U.S. entirely. The letter also wants to prevent Huawei from receiving any government subsidies, and wants all government agencies to state whether or not they've purchased Huawei-made equipment with federal funds. Huawei has run afoul of U.S. lawmakers before, who claim that Huawei has ties to the Chinese government. The Journal's sources say U.S. Cellular is set to make its decision in the next few weeks.

We certainly don't want them having access to any US communication network.

Do they even have enough spectrum?

The big carriers were scrambling for spectrum and Verizon and AT&T had to duke it out at the FCC auctions. Big Red coming out on top of course. So if they didn't have enough spectrum. How in the hell is a little bitty carrier like U.S. Cellular expect to do this?
By utilizing existing Spectrum as they migrate people from one to the other. Believe it or not every previous tech will die as carriers move to VOIP through LTE. It's just a matter of fine tuning the tech and making it as reliable as everything that...

USCC actually does have a surprising amount of AWS. They would have enough for their 7 million customers, and would probably blanket their existing service areas fairly quickly.

Hmmm

This could be interesting for them. They are a little behind on getting an advanced network, but hey, better late than never I suppose.

However, does Huawei have a good track record for telecom equipment? They make sub-par smartphones, hopefully they do better with their telecom.
I wouldn't say US Cellular is too far behind yet. They don't have a huge footprint and can proabably cover a lot of their customers fairly quicklly.

Huawei is more of a telecom network builder than a phone builder. They have build some of the bigge...

LTE Question

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with LTE technology in general. My question is, will LTE work overseas or other countries? I tried looking it up myself, but got mixed answers. Thanks!

Awesome!!!

This is great for U.S. Cellular! Even though they are a regional carrier with 6 million customers. They will be an option for customers in the surrounding areas looking to jump ship from T-Mobile regarding the merger. With At&T having to give up some spectrum this will be a great opportunity for U.S. Cellular to widen their network capabilities. Proving more solutions for customers looking elsewhere after the "merger" completes! Props to U.S. Cellular to remain competitive in this dog eat dog industry!
