Taiwanese phone maker MiTAC yesterday announced its second smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform. The MiTAC Mio 8390 is a tri-band GSM clamshell like its predecessor, the 8380. The new model is smaller, and steps up to a VGA camera with video recording, a 260,000-color display, and the 2003 version of Microsoft's OS. Additional features include Java MIDP 2.0, 40-chord polyphonic ringtones, 16 MB of memory, and a SD/MMC memory card slot.
