Nokia Announces New Communicator Smartphone

Nokia today announced the 9500, its latest Symbian-based smartphone to use the company's Series 80 platform. The 9500 features the same sideways-clamshell design as previous models in the 9000 series, including a wide main display and QWERTY keyboard. New features include EDGE high-speed data, 802.11b wi-fi, Bluetooth, and a VGA camera. 80 MB of internal memory can be expanded via a hot-swappable MMC card slot. A large, 65,000-color external display, combined with a Series 40 interface and an external keypad, allow access to basic phone functions while the device is closed. The 9500 will be available globally in the 4th quarter, with tri-band GSM versions available for both Europe/Asia and the Americas.

Finally!! I've been waiting patiently for a smartphone that has everything and this sounds like it's what I'm looking for.

I'll be interested to know the screen size, Java capabilities (if any), and available apps.

My budget is around $1000 US ...
