Microsoft Updates Windows Phone 7 Chassis Specs
Apr 15, 2011, 7:32 AM by Eric M. Zeman
At its recent MIX developer conference, Microsoft announced an update to the types of components that can be used in future Windows Phone 7 devices. The primary changes allow for the use of two new Qualcomm processors — MSM7x30 and MSM8x55 — both of which use the Adreno 205 graphical processing unit. Handset makers can also now choose to install a gyroscope, though it is not mandatory. The remaining base specs for WP7 hardware remain mostly the same, including the requirement for a WVGA (800 x 480) display. Microsoft didn't say when it expects products using the new specs to reach the market.
