Symbian this week announced the availability of Symbian OS version 8.0. Leading the list of improvements is "hard" real-time capabilities, which allow the main device processor to handle real-time functions such as voice. This eliminates the need for sperate real-time circuits, lowing cost. Another key feature is support for SDIO accessory cards. Rounding out the improvements are remote management and configuration, expanded Java support, and upgraded streaming video capability.
