Clearwire Outsources Network Operations to Ericsson
May 18, 2011, 9:21 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Clearwire today announced that it has signed an agreement to outsource the day-to-day operations of its WiMax network to telecom equipment provider Ericsson. Under the terms of the deal, which will last an initial seven years, Clearwire will retain ownership of its network assets, remain the primary point of contact for its partners and customers, and remain responsible for guiding the evolution of its wireless network technology. It will transfer approximately 700 employees to Ericsson by the middle of the year, which will then be responsible for monitoring, running, and maintaining the network. Terms weren't disclosed. Sprint made a similar pact with Ericsson in 2009 to manage the day-to-day of its network operations.
