Nokia Picks Qualcomm for WP7 Chips
May 20, 2011, 8:37 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Nokia today said that it has chosen to use chips from competitor Qualcomm in its first Windows Phone 7 smartphones, which are expected late this year or early next year. "The first Nokias based on Windows Phone will have the Qualcomm chipset," said a Nokia spokesman. "Our aim is to build a vibrant ecosystem around Nokia and the Windows Phone OS and with that intent we are naturally continuing discussions with a number of chipset suppliers for our future product portfolio." Several years ago, Qualcomm and Nokia battled one another over wireless radio patents. Qualcomm was the first chip supplier to support Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform.
