Verizon's Latest App Applies 'Shazam' Concept to Video
Jun 2, 2011, 8:13 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Verizon Wireless today announced a new application available from the V CAST Apps Android Store called VideoSurf. Similar to the way Shazam or SoundHound allows users to record snippets of songs and then search for the song information based on that snippet, VideoSurf lets people record a few seconds of a TV show or movie and then retrieve the information about that program. VideoSurf will tell users the name of the show, the episode that's airing, as well as provide the cast list. Users can then share the results via Facebook or Twitter if they wish. VideoSurf uses sound from the TV program as well as visual recognition technology to identify the content. The application is available for free to select Android phones and will be pre-loaded on Verizon's Long Term Evolution 4G phones moving forward.
