Cricket to Launch LTE in Tucson First
Jun 22, 2011, 10:36 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Cricket has informed PCMag that it will start testing its Long Term Evolution network in Tucson, Ariz., starting in the second half of the year. Cricket's first LTE device is likely to be a laptop modem. The company won't launch LTE handsets until they are thin and cheap enough, and have decent battery life, according to PCMag. Cricket has yet to decide on pricing for LTE plans and devices. Cricket underscored that it has signed a roaming agreement with LightSquared, though the future of LightSquared's business model is somewhat in doubt right now. Cricket has forged roaming agreements with other carriers, as well, which should help increase the availability of its services. Cricket didn't provide information on when its LTE network will launch in other markets.
