Google Makes It Easier to Publish Mobile Sites
Jun 23, 2011, 11:20 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Google today announced a new tool for Google Sites owners that will automatically optimize their web site for display on iOS and Android devices. The tool needs to be activated within a sites' Google settings, after which it will appear in an optimized-for-mobile format on devices running iOS 3.0 and up and Android 2.2 and up. The three key functions Google provides with this free tool will help align the header layout and top bar; fit the width of the site to the width of the phone's screen; and better handle tools such as sidebars, horizontal navigation, and drop-down links. The idea is to let more web sites fit better into the smaller screens of mobile devices in a way that easy and doesn't cost site owners time and resources. For mobile device users, the result should be a better mobile browsing experience when landing on web pages published through Google Sites.
