Ericsson Demos LTE Advanced, Claims 10x Speed Jump

Ericsson today announced that it has successfully tested Long Term Evolution Advanced networking technology on commercial equipment in its home country of Sweden. LTE Advanced, which is the next evolutionary step for wireless networks, promises another speed and capacity bump through carrier aggregation and extended multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) functionality. Ericsson claims to have reached speeds that are ten times faster than today's deployed commercial LTE networks, but it didn't say what those speeds were. Ericsson used spectrum provided by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency and use 3GPP Release 10 compliant hardware. Ericsson expects LTE Advanced to see commercial deployments starting in 2013.

And I will be shocked if LTE-A happens by 2013. That's around the time that Verizon intends to be finished deploying LTE across it's current 3G network.
