Google's 'Swiffy' Transforms Flash Content to HTML5
Jun 28, 2011, 4:19 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Google today announced a new tool that developers can use to translate Flash-based content to iPhone-compatible HTML5 content. The tool, called Swiffy, uses JSON, SVG, HTML5, CSS3, and ActionScript 2.0 to make SWF Flash files appear as JavaScript to WebKit browsers, which are then able to render them. According to Google, the translated SWF files are almost as small as the original files. Google warns that not all Flash content can be translated using this method, but a large portion of it can. The iPhone's Safari browser is unable to render Flash-based content on its own.
