Aug 30, 2011, 1:14 PM by Eric M. Zeman
AT&T today announced the availability of a free application called DriveMode, which can be used to prevent distracted driving. The application can be set to redirect incoming calls directly to voicemail, as well as to send out automatic "I am driving" text responses. The application features an "Allow List," which can be used to specify up to five numbers that can always be reached by or reach the smartphone while it is in transit. The app also automatically allows 911 calls to be made, and allows music and navigation functions to run in the background while it is engaged. The application is available for free to BlackBerries starting today, and will become available to other platforms over time.
