AT&T Extends Olive Branch to FCC with Jobs Offer

AT&T stated on Tuesday that if the Federal Communications Commission approves its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile, it will bring 5,000 wireless call center jobs back to the U.S. AT&T also pledged that it won't slash any U.S. jobs from AT&T and T-Mobile's call centers after the acquisition is complete. Combined, the two companies would have 25,000 call center employees, with an unknown portion being based outside the U.S. In a separate statement, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and CWA President Larry Cohen lauded AT&T's commitment to bring jobs back to the U.S. The FCC and Department of Justice are still reviewing AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile, and likely won't make a decision until early 2012.
