Nokia Patents Acquired by Mosaid
Sep 1, 2011, 1:08 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Mosaid today announced that it now controls former Nokia patents through its acquisition of Core Licensing. The patents, numbering about 2,000, pertain to various wireless and mobile technologies. Core will operate as a unit of Mosaid. Mosaid will license the patents to generate income. Mosaid itself is currently fending off a hostile take-over bid from a Canadian patent licensing company called Wi-Lan. If Wi-Lan successfully acquires Mosaid, the Core Licensing patents will have to be handed off to another company, as they are not transferable. Patent ownership has become a vital part of operating in the smartphone market.
