FasTap Video Diary

We document our first 10 days with the LG AX-490, the country's first phone with a FasTap full-text keypad.
We recorded our adventures testing the FasTap keyboard over the course of ten days. The FastTap is designed to make text entry faster by adding a key for each letter around the traditional numeric keyboard. We practiced daily and clocked our speed to see if the FasTap is actually... fast.
You can watch the video here:
Or you can watch it with more options by going to You Tube or Google Video
The FasTap is first available in the US on the LG AX 490 for Alltel.

how about T9 vs. iTap?
Also I think I'm faster on iTap sometimes than on someone's Blackberry with a QWERTY keyboard, though I'm sure that's just because I use it every day and am more used to typing on a real keyboard using all 10 of my fingers instead of just my thumbs.
It would be interesting to compare them too, though this FasTap just seems like a silly idea. For how many keys it puts on the keypad you might as well have QWERTY or SureType (the 20-key layout on slimmer Blackberries like the 7130).
How does QWERTY compare?

Disappointing...
Does anyone have this phone or the LG 6190 that can either confirm or dispute this?

Conclusion is Unfair. Try input 'me" with T9. See how long it will take.
1.erase "of"
2.shift to "Abc" input
3.input "me"
4. shift back to "T9" (only if the message is really long)
See how long that will take.
Or there is any secret shortcut of T9 that I didn't know?
That doesn't take very long.
1. hitting 53 (for me). get the readout "of"
2. hit the next word key (whatever that is on your phone, usually 0, *, or down on the d-pad) to get "me"
that's only 3 clicks. not bad.

i can't figure out how to use this.
Let's say you're in T9 mode and you want to type "Hello". You simply click number key where each letter is located once and as you're typing T9 will guess the word t...

what nokia is that in the video
it seems to have a big and crisp screen.
It's a QVGA display, so yes, it's very large and high-resolution.
