Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo this week announced that its FeliCa® mobile wallet service will officially launch early next month in Japan. Four new phones are set to launch for the service, including one 3G model. The new phones can be used to make purchases at over 9,000 shops in Japan. Users can also download new applications from 39 different service providers to enable their FeliCa phones for other functions, including train pass, debit and credit cards, and ID card. FeliCa is a contactless IC card technology already deployed in many types of passes and cards. The service has been in testing for the past six months.
