Latest NFC Spec Enables Phone-to-Phone Data Swapping
Sep 29, 2011, 10:09 AM by Eric M. Zeman
The Near Field Communications Forum today announced the addition of a new specification that makes it easier for phones to share information with one another without the need for third-party applications. The Simple NDEF Exchange Protocol (SNEP) is an application-level protocol for sending or receiving messages between two NFC-enabled devices. The end result will be fewer compatibility problems between mobile devices The NFC Forum suggests that it would be ideal for sharing information such as contact data, or collecting data (such as movie poster details) automatically for later consumption. The specification is free for NFC Forum members to download and implement into their devices/services.
