The successor to the popular Hiptop device by Danger recently received FCC approval, resulting in the public disclosure of previously-elusive photos of the device. The company first revealed the new device at 3GSM in February, but witheld photos pending announcement of a new manufacturing partner. The current Hiptop is marketed by T-Mobile USA as the Sidekick. The new version is significantly thinner, and sports a VGA camera with flash, and improved navigation controls.

any ideas on release dates?
Any idea how long it will take for this to come out? Is this like a year or more off or a matter of months? I want to get one but I'll wait for this one if its comming out in the near future. Are there any other cell phone/pda's that can surf the web? I mean, be able to read full html and view any webpage like the hiptop. I know there are plenty of devices that have internet capability but most can't view regular webpages and can only view webpages designed specifically for them. Thanks.

These things are practically built to break down!! Every other call I would get when I worked there was that their Hiptop had physically broken in some way. I really hope that this one is engineered better than the last one.
One thing I will say though is their marketing deserve top marks. The managed to get the Hip-Hop stars to start using it in their videos which caused a ton of ppl to buy it (I almost always asked why the customer purchased the device and 1 out of 3 ppl said it was because it was cool and they...

No doubt. My sidekick fell about 6 feet and it shattered, the screen busted all up, the outside casing was nothing short of a disaster. I don't expect all phones to sustain every 6 foot fall, even though most phones are tested to withstand such a thin...

Flush Folding Screen?
Is it me or does the screen actually look like it slides in flush to the keyboard. That would be a welcome feature...no more hump.
It is flush. No more lump.
