C Spire Wireless Boosting 3G Coverage by 1.3 Million POPs

C Spire Wireless today announced that it has expanded the footprint of its 3G network by an additional 1.3 million POPs in 61 cities and 65 counties across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The expansion, which is part of a greater network update ahead of C Spire's planned Long Term Evolution upgrade, swells C Spire's 3G footprint by about 38%, from 3.4 million POPs to 4.7 million POPs. C Spire said the upgrade was completed by updating cell towers and adding fiber-based backhaul from cell sites to the network. C Spire recently rebranded itself from Cellular South, and also announced that it will offer the Apple iPhone in the coming weeks. It has a roaming agreement with Sprint so its customers can use their devices outside of its home service region.
