Corning recently announced the availability of Lotus Glass, a new type of glass panel for smartphones, tablets, and laptops that is strong and durable. Corning says that the glass is manufactured by super-heating it and then cooling it very slowly. The result is a thinner glass that can withstand the processes of being incorporated into precise, high-resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and next generation LCDs. Corning says it reduces the power requirements for the display technology used for it, is environmentally friendly, and offers better clarity and image quality. Lotus Glass is already shipping to electronics makers.
