Yahoo today announced Hub, a new beta messaging application that lets smartphone users send text messages and conduct group chats for free. The application makes use of a phone's data connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data) to pass messages back and forth. According to Yahoo, Hub is device agnostic, and can communicate with any other device that has a phone number. It works with other devices that don't have Hub installed, which will receive messages as an SMS. Features of Hub include group messaging; local and international SMS messaging; privacy in conversation threads; and push notifications of incoming messages. Hub is available as a beta download from the Android Market.
