AT&T and Sprint Agree to Go to Trial After DOJ Suit

AT&T and Sprint have agreed to wait until after the Department of Justice's trial against AT&T is complete before proceeding with a trial for Sprint's lawsuit against AT&T. The Justice Department sued AT&T over its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile USA. The Justice Department alleges that the acquisition will lead to antitrust concerns and wants the the deal blocked. That trial is scheduled to start February 13, 2012. AT&T would like to wait until the Justice Department renders a verdict before tackling Sprint's (and C Spire Wireless's) lawsuits in court, but Sprint wants its trial to begin "immediately" after the governments trial ends. While many of Sprint and C Spire Wireless's claims were tossed, Sprint is suing that the merged entity would have too much power over handset pricing, while C Spire Wireless is suing over device pricing and the belief that wireless roaming costs will surge. A trial date for AT&T, Sprint, and C Spire Wireless has not yet been set.

what is the trial going to be over if Att has withdrawn the request to merge as of now. i thought the lawsuit was brought forth to block the merge. idk, seems kind of mute to me now and probably a huge waste of money and time... Just curious? any insight is appreciated....

AT&T withdrew its request to the FCC to transfer spectrum assets from T-Mobile. AT&T has not withdrawn its attempt to buy out T-Mobile. They just don't want to fight the DOJ and the FCC at the same time.
