Twitter today announced sweeping changes to how its service will behave on desktop browsers, on mobile browsers, and in the individual iOS and Android Twitter applications. Twitter says the reasoning behind the overhaul was to make accessing the features you want, easier, and simpler. It separates the behavior of the service into five main functions that are available across platforms (desktop, mobile, apps). There's a home page that offers an intro to recent tweets and access to the other navigation tools. The Connect tab is used to help manage conversations with other users. The Discover tab is used to help manage trends and search for topics. The ME (profile) tab lets users quickly access and control the information about themselves and their account, as well as access direct messages. The tool for composing new tweets is located on the Home tab. The updated apps for iPhone and Android can be downloaded today. Support for the new Twitter will arrive for other platforms in the coming weeks.
