TeleNav Intros Free, Web-Based HTML5 GPS Navigation Service

TeleNav today announced a new GPS navigation service that works in the browser of mobile phones rather than as a stand-alone application. The service uses HTML5 in the browser to provide voice-guided, turn-by-turn GPS navigation. In addition to the web service, TeleNav says the browser-based mapping tool can be added to existing web apps with a single line of code. It will include many of the features found in its native application, including full-color maps, audio directions, and automatic re-routing when drivers miss a turn. The service will be free for consumers and developers, and will support most major mobile platforms (including smartphones and non-smartphones). The service only requires that the browser in question support HTML5. TeleNav expects the HTML5 GPS navigation service to go live in early 2012.
