Google today announced a minor update to the Android platform. The new release — version 4.0.3 — includes a variety of optimizations and bug fixes for phones and tablets, as well as a few new APIs for developers. The first new API is called Social Stream and relates to the Contacts application. It will keep social networking updates, photos, and posts up-to-date with that person's contact data on the phone. There's also a new calendar API that will let users add color to events and alter types of attendees. The APIs deliver new camera controls to developers, including video stabilization management. Another API makes refinements to Accessibility tools, such as screen readers, and error reporting for text-to-speech engines. The new software also makes minor adjustments to graphics, database, spell-checking, and Bluetooth performance. The tools are available from the Android Developers support site.
